How do i make a new XML file?

ok so ive read all the tutorials about "making" xml files but they start by showing the code inside the file and how to arrange it. NOT how to actually create the xml shell....how the heck to i make from scratch an advanced settings xml that i can THEN edit in notepad and add some commands?
when i try to take another xml and edit its title, it doesnt save as an xml..GRRRRR.

music player shuffle?

i have a playlist that i want to have shuffle... from what ive seen its supposed to under the context menu but i dont see it there... am i looking in the wrong place?

Is it possible to setup XBMC to detect if a blue ray disc and launch powerdvd?

I have read quite a few external player threads. What i would like to do is setup several containers such as mkv, ts, mp4 etc to load mpc-hc external player for HD movies but when i play an avi or something it would load the internal player since i only need the external player for gpu acceleration.

Also i have a blu-ray drive and i would like xbmc to detect when i have a blu-ray in the drive so when i press play disc on my xbmc it would launch powerdvd to play the blu-ray disc.

I have haven't seen any any posts talking about a setup like this. Is it possible? has anyone figured it out yet?

All the posts i see relating to blu-ray drives seem to refer to rips or iso rips with mounting.. =(

Help to start up my pc with the remote..

Hi

I recently installed ubuntu and xbmc, and it works like a charm. The only thing i wonder about is if i can setup my remote (MCE) to start up my pc? So i wont have to leave the couch to press the on button:laugh:
I am a newbie to the linux world as a platform, so bare with me if this is a pretty simple question for you guys.
Hope someone out there contains the answear.

Stopped Playing All Media All Of A Sudden

I have 2 XBOXs, both running XBMC. Today, one of them stopped playing all media, whether smb shares of videos and music, or internet streams such as Youtube and stuff on NaviX. I have not changed ANYTHING as far as network configuration or XBMC settings in the days leading up to the onset of this problem - it just seemed to start randomly.

Here's what I mean when I say XBMC has stopped playing media:

I can still see all of my media, whether it's files in an smb share or files on the internet. However, when I click on a file, the file will apparently begin to cache (for internet files the green cache progress bar will move from left to right, and for smb shares the green circle will appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen), but when it's ready to play the file nothing will happen and I'll remain on the same screen I started from. For smb shares, I will sometimes see a fraction of a second worth of video (basically a frame or two) before being kicked back to the screen I started from.

Here's what I've tried so far:

I re-added my SMB shares - no luck. I completely deleted and re-installed the latest build of XBMC - no luck. I reset my modem and reset and reconfigured my router - no luck.

Anyone have any sage advice?

Nokia Internet Tablet web remote

Hello, everybody. I've recently been working on an XBMC web front-end for Nokia Internet Tablets -- N770, N800, N810, and probably the N900. It should also work well on any other mobile device with an 800x480 screen with a capable-enough browser.

It is based on some great work from forum member jjchambers in this thread. All I did was switch out some graphics, change the CSS around a bit and ajax-ify it so the browser doesn't keep coming up on page loads. Oh, and I added a section to control the on-screen GUI. If you click the XBMC logo in the top-left corner, you'll see those controls. I added some key-handlers so you can use the hardware buttons to control the OSD. Look at the top of default.js to view or edit the mappings.

It still needs work, but I'm probably not going to do much more on it because I just got a Mac Mini, and I'm using its little remote now. I thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else wanted to use it or do something with it. With a few tweaks, it could easily be adapted for 320x480 and be useful on a wider range of devices.

Will XBMC work with Windows Media Center?

I am using Windows Media Center to record shows on tv and I have been contemplating making the XBMC settop box they put together on Lifehacker. If I use the settop box on my tv, can I watch the shows that I record on my computer using Windows Media Center?

I am pretty sure XBMC don't have the power to do this for now. But shouldn't navigating the skin be more like this.

Some view are really rough and not very good but the flow and life. Really cool. I hope we will see this in XBMC soon.

Possible to set custom aspect ratio for specific folder only?

Hi all,

I am using Camelot alpha 2 and it rocks. I wonder if it's possible to set custom AR for specific folder. Right now I have a folder of TV episodes that are in 4/3 but when played it's terribly blurry due to poor quality. Each time I play a new episode I gotta go to settings to adjust aspect ratio to smaller size. Any way to set it automatically just for that folder?

Virtualkeyboard function gone?

I get the feeling Im going to get reamed for asking this. But did the virtualkeyboard function disappear in the advancedsettings.xml file? I still have the entry but the functionality is gone.

This is after updating from a build a few months old (pre camelot) to Camelot A2.

If I didnt search hard enough and the answer is right in front of me please ream me, I do it all the time. :)

I was going to put this under linux, since Lirc is linux, but seeing as how keymap keys are universal, thought I might get more hits here. I looked athttp://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Keymap.xml but didn't see any options for invoking a scan for new content option. Let me be clear, I already have a remote button assigned to update my library, but I'd like to also have a key so that when I select a tv show, I can scan for just new content in that tv show. The option is available from the "C" menu, but not sure what window or option i have to call in Lircmap and remote.xml.

Looking to build an Atom/ION Nettop

For the last couple months I've been trying to decide what type of media player/streamer to get. At first I was looking at getting something like a Popcorn Hour...but then once I came across the ION Nettops, I started going in that direction. Since none of the pre-built nettops out there seem to have exactly what I want, and I also have some spare parts sitting around, now I'm looking at building one and installing XBMC.

I'll be using it mostly to play DVD/Blu-ray rips (via file server), but my feeling is also that internet streaming/download is the future of television/movie watching and I want to be prepared for that.

I will most likely be loading Windows 7 due to the Blu-ray disc playing capability. My thinking is I will put a Blu-ray player in my desktop PC and share the drive out.

So I'm looking at getting this motherboard/CPU:

ASUS AT3N7A-I Intel Atom 330 (1M Cache, 1.6GHz, Dual-Core) NVIDIA ION Motherboard/CPU Combo (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131408)

And the following case (none of the cases I've seen have really impressed me):

In addition to that, I know I'll need memory, hard drive, etc, but I already have that stuff. I believe the only additional thing I'll need to buy is some type of IR Remote device to be able to use my Universal Remote to control it.

One concern I have - my TV is an older CRT Rear Projection model, so it doesn't have HDMI. I plan on getting an HDMI>Component transcoder, but obviously that won't give me audio. The motherboard I'm looking at has S/PDIF, but I've read that some of these motherboards don't do 5.1 (or 7.1) via S/PDIF, only via HDMI. That would be a problem for me. Is there any way to confirm if a motherboard's S/PDIF out does 5.1 & 7.1?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Both players work fine outside XBMC, and

Can't play .MPG movies on XBMC running on Apple TV

Have just imported several .MPG movies from my Sony HD camcorder into my NAS.

In this NAS, I have a share folder and 2 sub-folders, named Movies (movies downloaded from the Internet and are mainly .AVI) and this newly created Camcorder Movies (which are all .MPG)

In XBMC, I created a new source by pointing to this newly created subfolder. The other Movies subfolder I have been using to watch movies without any problems for months now.

When I browse this Camcorder Movies subfolder on my iMac, I see all 154 MPG movies and I can watch then with VLC - If I try to watch them with Quicktime player, it won't play.

But on XBMC, when I select this source, it brings only one file named M2u.mpg which is not even seen on my iMac and when I try to exit using the Menu button on the remote, XBMC returns an error message with status 11.

Any clues?
